Chain Gang Women

Tempting movie poster.
If someone wanted to define the exploitation genre he would probably be under a lot of trouble, because in the exploitation scene, as well in any other movie tendency we have both good and bad stuff,  but, no one defined exploitation as an award winning art, on the contrary exploitation means selling a product by abusing of its content, or part of its content for such matter.

Take today's movie review, Chain Gang Women, a promising title that suggests beaten/tortured women, nudity and plenty of sex. If that was a part of the film, the movie itself would probably be considered in a different movie genre. The movie title is true to its exploitation roots because we have to wait until an hour to see the very first girl, and the chain thing and the gang thing never happens. There are a couple of rape scenes which are lightly covered by the director.
Promising.
Mean guys.
The film is in no way a rip off, it is just an exploitation movie abusing the caged women concept of the late 70's soft core porn/porn films and they are not blame. So if you feel like a true genre connoisseur you will understand my words and probably think to yourself "this loser is right, exploitation was all about promising a concept and then failing to deliver it"

Roger Corman did produce 3 memorable caged women style films, Women in Cages, The Big Bird Cage & The Big Doll House, and believe my friend Chain Gang Women has absolutely nothing to do with those films. It was also stated somewhere in the media, even in DVD double features a la grindhouse style that this film, besides the promising title was also a biker movie (yep, another exploitation fad) and I bet you're guessing this film it is neither a biker flick.

So? what the hell is this movie about? well, here's the answer:

Boy meets boy in jail. Boys escape; and, boy meets girl.

Other boy rapes girl; boys leave girl.

Boys find other girl; other boy rapes girl.

Girl seduces boy. Husband kills both boys.

Girl is miserable.

Not a truly remarkable script, neither a masterpiece, just a party movie as some define films which are not interesting nor hard to follow when doing other stuff.

This is the first girl who shows up after 43'.
Is this a bike? are there any chains?
How would I grade this film? I don't know man, I just think you have to watch films for fun, there are thousands of relevant matters to discuss in life with more in depth investigations after all movies are just movies and today's flick is not about a masterpiece it's just another exploitation film.

Exploitation scene N°1.
Exploitation scene N°2.
Here's the movie trailer as usual:

Prisoners of the Lost Universe

Original movie poster.

Today's flick review is about a parallel universe adventure made in 1983, and believe me the film itself hasn't aged like wine has.

The 80's where wonderful years concerning the movie industry, thousands of stories were made and some other thousands of copies from original ideas were also made. I'm not saying the all original hollywood awarded sci-fi films are the ones you have to watch, but it is always nice to recognize the original source of many of the B movies reviewed on this blog.
Prisoners of the Lost Universe, was not produced or related by any means to legendary producer Roger Corman, a guy who did have a lot to do with Star Wars space adventure imitations of all sorts, in fact he did have a lot to do with lots of film that were dubiously similar to Hollywood blockbusters and who fucking cares? Do  you? I don't.

I mentioned Roger Corman to prepare you to the kind of film I'm about to describe, I mean it could have not been produced by Corman, but all of his art and talent can be found in today's film.

Astonishing art.
Our angry heroine.
You won't see me nude here pal.
After the pointless introduction about what everyone knows already I gotta warn you that to enjoy this movie you really have to be able to overlook the low budget. The special effects are lame. Very lame. The alien dimension is an exact replica of Earth. The "monsters" are people in mild fancy dress. The fight scenes are amateurish, and made more "exciting" by running the film faster. A three year old child could spot it without even trying. However, if you can accept the shortfalls for what they are – the result of an extremely low budget and an overreaching ambition – and allow yourself to ride with the tide, you will enjoy this film.

The saving graces come in the form of a fun script and Kay Lenz.

The script is not magnificently written, but the dialogue is fun and counterpoints many amusing incidents in the storyline. I won't highlight any incidents as I want this post to remain spoiler-free. However, if you relax into this movie and roll with it you will discover them for yourself when you find yourself laughing out loud – and you will perhaps be surprised that you are laughing with the movie, not at it.

Kay Lenz is also fun. If you like your heroines good looking and feminine but sparky, you will love her character. Having a female lead character in a film who looks like this, and is possessed of intelligence and verve, will always add a certain frisson for many male viewers.

Weird Comrades.
I always find that one of the marks of a movie that has been particularly enjoyable is that at the ending I am surprised that so much time has passed whilst I was watching. This film met that criterion. It is refreshing to find this in a low-budget movie after sitting through some Hollywood blockbuster or other wondering how much longer it will be before the interminable film ends.

If you want to watch a fun bubblegum movie, and you are willing and able to overlook a budget so low that it hits you in the face thirty times per minute of running time, take a look at this film. You will have fun.

Here's the movie trailer:

And for your deep loyalty with yours truly I give you the full movie for your viewing pleasure:

TNT Jackson

Nice art!
Cool movie poster.
If my last blog entry was about a blonde heroine this time will be about a greater, tougher and powerful black girl who knows her way in the organized crime world: miss Diana Jackson, or as she would prefer to be called: TNT Jackson. Fasten your seatbelts for a kung-fu style blaxploitation classic.

Roger Corman's New World Pictures combines blaxploitation with chop-sockey in this 1975 exploitation film that was directed by Cirio Santiago, a Filipino director who did a number of films for B movie cult producer Roger Corman.

I'll show you my moves.
Watch out motherfucker!
Take that!
The plot is simple; Diana "TNT" Jackson avenges her brother's murder and becomes involved with drug dealers, including Stan Shaw, who sports a huge Afro and wears a 70s era pimp wardrobe throughout the film. Jeanne Bell portrays TNT Jackson . . . she can't act and her kung-fu moves are laughable as she chops and kicks various Filipino and Chinese extras. In fact, almost all of the kung-fu scenes are among the worst choreographed fight scenes ever filmed. Viewed today, this film is unitentionally funny and might make a good party DVD, though there is some nudity and coarse language, reflecting the film's exploitation roots.

I need no clothes to fight ya!
Check my boobs yo.
Let's dance!
What are you looking at?
These are the lottery numbers.
Unfortunately, the movie print quality is not good . . . numerous scratches and artifacts are found throughout the film and the soundtrack is poorly recorded; you'll have to crank your volume up to hear the dialog. Anyways the movie is not a bad deal, and having some transfer issues is also not a bad thing, because I guess, the old looking picture makes you feel like watching a 70's film which for nostalgia works very fine, probably if the film was remastered to today's standards it wouldn't really feel as the exploitation b movie it is.

Here is the movie trailer:

And here is part 1 of the film (it was uploaded by some guy in several parts, so you can watch it online for free)

Superchick

Groovy movie poster.
Good evening everybody! tonight I'll take you on a trip to 1973 to meet your way with another great exploitation film: Superchick. The title suggests a comic book history or a major plagiarism act on behalf of DC Comic's Supergirl, but as usual in an exploitation film, the title is just another catchy line to get your attention. The movie main character has no super powers, no super suit, no super nothing at all! and who fucking cares!

SUPERCHICK is more a super powers container filled with terrible acting, the worst fight staging ever seen scenes, dialogue that need you to rewind the movie a little just to make sure you did listen to them (example: "Last one in bed gets no head" said by Superchick herself!) Superchick is a dowdy brown haired stewardess who changes into a sexy long blonde haired daring adventurer who picks lovers like a kid picks candy. She's a sexually liberated woman who does what she wants - which mostly is baring a little breast, having sex under garish bedsheets and doing the worst karate moves ever done on Earth.

Sharing her super powers with the world.
Greater than Beatrix Kiddo.
The lead is played by Joyce Jillson who went ont to become a successful syndicated astrology columist. There's lots of quick nudity shots from what looks like worn out sluts. There is an unbelievable verbal sex scene that has to be seen to be believed. With an annoying yet catchy score, this movie has everything a b movie fan could wish for.

Grown, not made.
Grandma!
oh Really?

Here is the movie trailer:

 Here are the opening titles:

Where can you find this gem? well, the original DVD released with the film is currently out of print, but for less than 10 bucks you can get it on the "Big Screen Bomb Shells" 12 movie pack released by Millcreek Entertainment.

Sangkamrater AKA Wide Open

Original Movie Poster.
Hello there fellow movie freaks, your humble cult film blog seems to be getting hotter and hotter with some of the most interesting sexploitation films the wonderful 70's could ever deliver.

Tonight's main course will be the last movie in which our sex goddess Christina Lindberg had a starring role (well, actually more like supporting role anyways but her promo pictures did help the film widen its audience). Released in 1975 under the original swedish title of Sängkamrater,  a title that literally translates to English as "Bed Fellows" but for some unknown reason to me it was titled as Wide Open.

Paul and Marianne are roommates and lovers but they don’t get along very well. One night after a party the couple bring home her sister Beryl (pronounced “barrel”) just before Marianne goes out of town. So that leaves the womanizing Paul and Beryl to get into trouble, and they do. She begins stripping for a nude photographer and he starts fucking the photographer’s girlfriend Eva (Lindberg). While the four of them are partying one evening, Beryl accidentally gets locked out of the apartment and picked up by the sinister Mr. X who takes her to his house and starts assaulting her. During her escape, she grabs a mink coat to cover herself on the way out, and it turns out to be filled with drugs. Marianne returns home to find that Paul and Beryl have gotten into trouble and in the exciting and completely oddball ending, Paul, Beryl, Marianne and Eva end up in a showdown with the bad guys.

Convenient opening titles.
Not talented but beatiful enough.

This movie’s plot is a mess. My synopsis is cleaned up and written to make sense which Wide Open barely does. The story is completely convoluted and random and the Benny Hill-style ending comes completely out of nowhere. I think it is supposed to be sort of a dramedy but fails considerably. The acting is more than adequate but they didn’t have much to go on. In the ways that the film fails as a coherent story, it succeeds in being a pretty decent softcore porn flick. All three lead actresses are nude as much as they are clothed and that’s not a bad thing with these particular ladies. Lindberg is a given; she is a goddess pure and simple and really struts her gorgeous assets here. The pleasant surprises are Solveig Andersson (Marianne) and Gunilla Larsson (Beryl), both sexy ladies in completely different ways. Andersson, much like Lindberg, is a big-breasted brunette beauty. Larsson though, it took me about half of the movie to decide whether she had “character” or she was just weird looking. She has a unique, cute face and small, very sincere boobs. She grew on me.

There was a definite theme throughout the movie that hammered home the point that all men are assholes. Paul was a complete creep who treated all women like shit and for some reason, they couldn’t resist his disgusting sexual advances even when they knew he was fucking other women. The motherfucker won’t even take his clothes off to bang them; they get naked, he climbs on top of them, unzips his zipper and sticks it in… romantic! It isn’t until the sappy end when he finds “true love” that he actually gives her the courtesy of not giving her denim burn on her coochie. In one scene the photographer has Eva vacuuming in the nude and then he literally kicks her in the ass and she stumbles to the floor. These dudes need a good punch to the cock. In the interview with director Gustav Wiklund in the DVD extras, he explains that this was on purpose but doesn’t really go into why. Lindberg is also in the interview feature and she still looks good, especially for her age and she had awesome cleavage.
Nice vintage sunglasses.
Cumface.

Like many sexploitation films of the 70's you might be saying to yourself, "Well it can't be all awful, Christina Lindberg is in it!". True, but nowhere near as much as your led to believe. Ms. Swedish Sex Goddess is a mere secondary character, only showing up to showcase her buxom twins (and other assets) every few minutes. A shame since having her in the film are it's only redeemable/shining moments. There's a scene where Lindberg vacuums...naked. God bless sexploitation.

To be blunt, Wide Open is flat out boring. It's not erotic, titillating or fun to watch at all. Besides the aforementioned nudity courtesy of Christina Lindberg, this is an easy pass. However, if you're a Lindberg fan seeking for her complete filmography, then you need to add it to your watched collection but, if you're new to the genre, this may not be the most appropriate film to get a taste of what European sexploitation is about.
This is exploitation.
What do we have here?

The DVD from Impulse Pictures is pretty standard as far as extras. The interview described above, a Lindberg photo gallery and trailers but my favorite thing is the reversible nude cover… HUBBA HUBBA! Transfer wise, the quality is on par with a decent VHS picture. There is some obvious yet small film debris throughout and both sides of the screen glow pretty brightly during the darker scenes. The colors are also muted and drab. That’s not to say it isn’t watchable because it definitely is, just don’t expect anything stunning. It is 1.66:1 widescreen which means you will have tiny black lines on each side of your 16×9 TV. The Dolby 2.0 soundtrack is perfectly sufficient with no apparent problems. This isn’t Goddess Lindberg’s best movie as she is relegated down to a supporting role (due to budget restraints according to Wiklund) but they make the most of her and keep her lovely globes mostly uncovered. Christina Lindberg, soft porn and Swedish sensationsfilms fans alike should most assuredly check out Wide Open just for the skin of it!
This is my kind of nanny.
Hairy Beaver.
Working over time.

Here's a public domain version of the film (non remastered, and certainly not taken from the Synapse films DVD but, hey, it's something!

The Pig Keeper's Daughter

an Inviting DVD cover.
Original promo art.
Since today I met the 20,000 visitors goal I thought it would be nice to please you with an extra movie review, this time for a real sexploitation classic which has been out of print for quite a while, and if you're lucky to find a DVD copy, it won't cost you less than $60 bucks which is a lot of money! Thank god we got the internet to reach a few hard to find items at the reach of our fingers.

The Pig Keeper's Daughter was originally released in 1972 and it was re-released in 2001 by the Something Weird Video company. The storyline is pretty simple and if you're looking for a true sexploitation example well this is it.

Please try to answer this humble question what is a teen cutie that lives on a pig farm to do? Why have some sort of sexual liason with every man she encounters of course! She is not the only one busy with liasons - there are the girl that lives on the farm nearby, some annoying salesman that wants to shag anything he comes across (even a man tied and mugged!), a fifteen year-old (looking like twenty-some years old) hitchhiker, and, of course, the wife of the pigkeeper and mother of Moonbeam, the voluptuous pigkeeper's daughter. This film is really nothing more than a string of sex scenes strung together with little purpose, rhyme, or reason. The plot is so threadbare that it comes apart to nothing shortly into the film, only to be tried and saved in the last minute of the film ,but that's not saying this film  sucks ,cause it's a sexploitation movie, so the little plot and the acting itself are not something to be worried about, it's a movie about people having sex and if you're ok with it, you will definitely like it.

Moonbeam and her little pet.
hillbilly innocent teen.
Her very first uncomfortable sexual moments.
Getting to know herself.
If you are looking for comedy, forget it as nothing is very funny. The opening number is intriguing but the music played throughout each "liason" is exactly the same and begins to get on your nerves quickly. The women are fine figures of pulchritude, bursting out of what garments they do wear. The Pigkeeper's Daughter has qualities more closely associated with porn: Wretched acting, a mere hint of a plot and even less of a script, and lots of extended sex scenes (which are pretty explicit for a softie). Terry Gibson (in the title role) and Patty Smith (a.k.a. Peggy Church) are about the only people anyone would want to see have sex. There's a surprising amount of male nudity. And what happened to the "actress" playing Gibson's mama? Her breasts look chafed and there's a horrible bruise across her lower back. Was she beaten into taking this role? (This might explain her performance.)

All natural boobs.
An expert proving if they're natural.
Big boobs lady!

I swear I tried to post clothes on caps.
Sex is all over this film.
Not so innocent anymore.

You're dirty little girl.
Let's make sure you're cleaned up properly.
Overall the movie is just mean for exploitation genre connoisseurs, specially for sexploitation fans. I liked the film because it did deliver what was offering from the very beginning, so if you know what I mean you won't be dissapointed.

Here are the opening titles:

And here a little video from the movie I found somewhere:

and another movie excerpt, I'm sorry but the whole film is just about sex, so it was very difficult to find any video stating the plot.

Boy this blog has gotten hot! next time I'll review some lighter films. See you!
