Amusement
and entertainment with Spencer as a tough cop against a pilferer
amusingly played by Tomas Milian who uses to seduce older women and
steals their jewelry ; however , being witness a murder and then he is
pursued by Mafia . Entertaining and funny Italian film with the bouncing
Spencer or Carlo Perdesoli as a detective from Miami Police Department .
Set in modern-day Miami , a cop named Alan Parker ultimately is going
on Holiday with all his family , wife and five sons . But his vacation
flies away at the last moment and he has to cancel the scheme to
re-capture a cocky thief named Tony Roma (Tomas Milian) . Parker is
close to sort a case out when Tony is witness of a killing ordered by a
Mafia boss (Mark Lawrence , an American secondary who used to play
gangsters from the 40s) . There happens several adventures , car
pursuits , shootouts and Alan Parker protects Tony from Mafia and they
flee in a cattle wagon but his family is kidnapped . Fun comedy set on
Miami , it's a vehicle for Bud Spencer enthusiasts , dealing with chases
, leaps-and-bounds cars , mobsters ,kidnappings , and an obstinate
policeman against all . Spencer takes on lots of greed men who are
interested in killing his witness , facing off risks , and several
adventures.
Can Parker protect a jewel thief?
How much for anal?
This is an engaging entertaining juvenile for Bud
Spencer buffs , as he's delightful . It packs action, fist-play ,
slapdash, humor with tongue-and-cheek and is quite amusing . This
entertaining , sympathetic movie is crammed of fist-fights, punches ,
kicks, knocks-outs , overwhelming stunt-work and lots of humor . This
bemusing picture is starred by the Cuban Tomas Milian , as usual, he
puts faces , grimaces, crying and overacting , but plays splendidly ,
here as a roguish named Tony Roma , a bad copy of a Latin lover . He
starred the Sergio Sollima's famous trilogy , Spaghetti Western with a
notorious character called ¨Cuchillo¨ and formed by ¨Big gundown¨, ¨Face
to face¨ and ¨Run Cuchillo run¨ . Bud Spencer is top-notch as one army
man taking on a group of bandits and as always he makes his own stunts
with comic touches , as usual . It relies heavily on the agreeable
relationship between grumpy ,two-fisted cop , Bud Spencer , and the
rogue swindler , Tomas Milian . This release has some cool and several
hilarious moments , though the Terence Hill-Bud Spencer duo films are
much better.
Early 80's fashion.
Yes, this car is real.
The film isn't always good , sometimes is fresh and
diverting and on a couple of memorable occasions , it's frankly
delicious. The movie displays innumerable laughters , jokes and
slapstick . The picture is well starred by Bud Spencer . Bud , the
popular Latin movie actor who starred in innumerable spaghetti Westerns
and action-packed potboilers during the 1960s and '70s, was born Carlo
Pedersoli (1929) in Naples. He was the first Italian to swim the 100
meter freestyle and competed as a swimmer at the Olympic games . He
appeared as a member of the Praetorian Guard in his first movie,
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's epic "Quo Vadis" in 1951. He changed his screen
name to "Bud Spencer" in 1967, as a homage to Spencer Tracy and to the
American beer Budweiser. Spencer achieved his greatest hit in spaghetti
Westerns lensed for a global audience. Teaming up with fellow Italian
Terence Hill, the two made such international successes as I Quattro
dell'Ave Maria (1968) and "They Call Me Trinity" , and ¨Trinity is still
my name¨ . Their dual outings made both stars famous, particularly in
Europe. In all, Spencer made 18 movies with Hill . Later on , he became a
jet airplane and helicopter pilot after appearing in ¨Crazy plane¨
(1972) and owned an air transport company, Mistral Air, which he founded
in 1984. However, he terminated his business interest in Mistral and
entered the children's clothing industry. After 1983, Spencer's movie
career slowed down, though he did have a big success in the early 1990s
with the TV action-drama "Extralarge". A man of many talents, Bud wrote
texts and plots for some of his films . He also has registered several
royalties. In the 70s and 80s Bud Spencer starred quite a few movies
without Terence Hill , as he made three kind of films : 1ª he performed
pictures with a little boy as partner as ¨Banana Joe ¨ , ¨Aladdin¨and
¨The Supersheriff¨ ; 2ª about cop named Flatfoot or Rizzo, also called
Piedone, such as, ¨Flatfoot in Cairo , Flatfoot in Hong Kong, Flatfoot
in Egypt , Flatfoot in Africa¨, furthermore the ¨Extralargo¨ series 3ª
about diverse characters as a medieval knight as ¨Soldier of fortune¨ , a
swindler as ¨Mr Charleston¨ or a fisherman , ex-player as ¨Bulldozer .
And they all lived happily...ever after?
The
picture packs commercial musical score by La Bionda in similar style to
usuals Guido and Maurizio De Angelis , including catching sounds
fitting perfectly in the mood of the movie . Passable cinematography by
Silvio Ippoliti , though is necessary a perfect remastering . The story
is middling written by by Mario Amendola, following the Hill-Spencer
ordinary trademarks , he wrote several Spencer vehicles as ¨Banana Joe¨,
¨Aladdin¨, ¨A friend is a treasure¨, and ¨Par and Impar¨. The motion
picture is regularly directed by Bruno Corbucci, Sergio Corbucci's
brother. Bruno wrote and directed various Hill-Spencer films as ¨Banana
Joe¨ , ¨Miami Supercops¨ , ¨Par-Impar¨ , ¨Cat and Dog¨ and ¨Aladdin¨ .
If you love the Spencer's other movies, go for it, and if you've never
seen one this is an acceptable start ; but only for Bud fans . This is
an average entertaining juvenile that will appeal to Italian comedy
buffs.
Since in some countries of the world there is a thing called "Easter" where the catholic world mourns the death & return of the first popular fictional character I thought I should pick a family movie with strong values. So, as I was reviewing Terence Hill & Bud Spencer's classics I chose "Un Osso Troppo Duro", AKA "Renegade", AKA "Renegade Jim", a 1987 Terence Hill solo film about
Luke
Mantie (played by Terence Hill) who is a loner, who just lives on the
road,
driving his jeep with a trailer attached that his horse, Joe Brown,
resides.
So, what is it about?
One day, a 15 year old punk named Matt, played by Terence Hill's son,
Ross,
tells him that his father, Moose, is in jail and he needs to speak to
"Renegade" Luke. Luke and Matt drive to the pennitentary and Luke finds
out
that Moose is in Jail for a crime he didnt commit (typical isn't it?), and Moose needs Luke to
settle down and move in to a house on a big piece of property and become
Matt's legal guardian. Luke says NO, so Moose threatens to get his cell
mate
to forge the papers...child abandonment is a serious offence.
Trinity of the XX century.
Luke and
Matt
don't get along at first but they start to develop a brother type
relationship. They both get in a few ordeals with 2 truckers, screw a
whole
bar full of drunks out of 500 dollars with a butterfly knife throwing
contest and they have to get revenge from an evil Lawyer with the help of
a
rough Biker Gang.
Is it worth watching?
This movie has plenty of action & comedy. For instance, there's a scene where our lead couple screws the money out of a bunch of drunks which is hillarious and the fight between Terence Hill and the lead
biker is a grand scene. I recomend this movie to ALL fans of Terence Hill
and Bud Spencer movies, action movie goers, or people who are looking for
a
good "road/buddy" movie.
Like father, like son.
The most unusual trio.
However, it can be slow in parts, yet is still enjoyable 99% of the way through.
Terence Hill plays his "Renegade" Luke role as a natural.
As the movie develops, there are some decent car chase scenes and trucker
action, however when the two reach Green Haven Valley, there comes a
completely irrelevant subplot. It turns out that Luke and Matt have
Pagan neighbours, and the character development of Ely and his
daughters is almost unnecessary, as the movie loses its exciting pace.
However, they do play a minor role later in the storyline and if you
hang in there long enough, there comes some more slapstick car chases
and action between Luke and a previous enemy.
Ya want action son?
Sad Side note
Terence Hill's adopted son, Ross Hill, was killed in a
car accident in 1991. So this was his first, and last, big screen
appearance ever.
Despite being low budget, this movie is very enjoyable and worth
watching if you can get your hands on a copy! Also the main song "Call me the Breeze" by Lynyrd Skynyrd is a rock classic.
Hello fellow internet connoisseurs of the fabulous world of B movies. Today, we shall continue with my childhood's favorite couple: Terence Hill & Bud Spencer. Non C'é Due Senza Quattro, AKA Double Trouble is yet another classic Hill/Spencer film filled with humor, joyful, mirth and amusement .
Released in 1984, the original italian title translates better as "there can't be two without four", revealing some major plot spoiler. Anyways, it's
an entertaining film with the notorious duo posing as millionaires in
sunny Rio and full of abundant kicks , punches , leaps and bounds . The
picture deals with ours intimate friends , Terence Hill and Bud Spencer
and they both find out that are inseparable partners taking on numerous
adventures . This action/comedy deals with Greg Wonder (Bud Spencer)
and Elliot Vance (Terence Hill) , two characters utterly different .
Wonder is a bouncing man who recently got out of prison who plays saxophone at a
jazz bar in New Orleans , while Vance is an adventurer who pilots
little aircrafts . Both of whom are hired by a secret organization to
replace two soft-spoken millionaire cousins named Antonio Coimbra de la Coronilla y Acevedo (Spencer) and
Bastiano Coimbra de la Coronilla y Acevedo (Hill) living in Brazil and who look exactly like
them. The friends learn their effeminate and cocky manners , training
themselves for replacing and wearing elegant Brazilian clothes. At the
very end takes place an amusing confrontation among Hill-Spencer , theirs
shy doubles against a group of well-armed mercenaries.
Lookalikes!
Brazilian ass.
The film contains action , fist-play , humor with tongue-in-cheek and
is pretty bemusing . It's an entertaining film with enjoyable comedy in
the wake of Trinity and Bambino , both of them playing a double
character . The big time duo from Spahetti Western wrapped in humor as
¨They call me Trinity ¨ and its following as ¨Trinity is still my name¨
and ¨Trouble makers¨ were run out and then they're transfered to Police
and action genre . As they played the Miami series which are set in
Florida , such as ¨Miami Supercops¨, ¨Crime Busters¨, and ¨Superfuzz¨ .
This time Miami is substituted by Rio De Janeiro , as the picture shows
typical images from Rio as the usual Christ of Corcovado , Samba
parades and of course the famous Carnaval.
Original promo art from 1984.
More Brazilian ass.
In Europe & South America these movies are
shown on TV very frequently and are part of growing up on children and
adolescents , however in the USA they are quite unknown . They're plenty of
humor and based on diverse personality and physical differences among
them . This one packs silly comedy , tongue-in-cheek, slapstick and the
habitual struggles neither blood , nor violence, besides including some
pursuits .
Agreeable casting with a likable Terence Hill and a grumpy
Bud Spencer , playing amusingly their customary roles as always. There
appears the nasty Nello Pazzafini , an ordinary from Peplum and
Spahetti , though isn't Ricardo Pizzuti, Hill-Spencer's habitual
antagonist and whom receives the knocks and kicks .
Rich sissy bastards.
Pimp my ride, before pimp my ride ever existed.
Adequate and
colorful cinematography By Silvano Ippoliti , Sergio Corbucci's usual .
Commercial , jolly musical score by Micolizzi , including Samba songs
and in Guido and Mauricio De Angelis style . The motion picture is
professionally directed by Enzo Barboni or E. B. Clucher . He was a
prestigious cameramen including classic Spaghetti Western ( Django,
Goobye Texas , Hellbenders ), but with the hit of ¨Trinity is my name¨
left it and turned to film-making , and directed the sequel ¨Trinity is
still my name¨ and the third outing ¨Trinity and Bambino, the legend
lives on¨, plus other Hill and Spencer vehicles in solitary as
¨Renegado Jim¨, ¨Even angels eat beans¨ and ¨El Magnifico¨ . The film
is absolutely hilarious for Hill and Spencer enthusiasts and ranks
among their less famous but most representative ones ; a must see for
all their fans. Rating : Mediocre but entertaining .
They say Bud Spencer & Terence Hill aren't well known in the United Kingdom, I say I pity them cause that just can't be. The italian action comedy golden couple of all times has a legendary status among movie connoisseurs, and if you know them well you know you're for a treat ofa nice mix of sight gags, slapstick and inventive fight scenes, that can be
closer to an Italian version of a Jackie Chan comedy than any western
comedy duo.
Nati con la Camicia (Born with a Caul) AKAGo For It unites the drifter Rosco (Hill) with fresh-out-of-jail Doug
(Spencer). Within the first 10 minutes they've beaten the occupants of
a highway diner and stolen a truck. 10 minutes later, they're mistaken
for two CIA operatives and despatched to Miami to infiltrate the
mysterious K1's organisation.
Random heroes.
Pimp my ride nigga.
The script and budget of this film are well above their usual
low-budget set-pieces, but what really makes these films shine are the
stars. Hill's smooth-talking, fist-fighting charmer is the perfect
counterpart to Spencer's hulking laid-back bruiser. If you've never
seen them fight a group of Euro-villains, this is a good one to start
with. Much of the pleasure comes from seeing Bud Spencer delivering one
of his trademark slaps - a slap from a man that size HAS to hurt and
the ringing sound effects foleyed in are a nice departure from the
usual gunshot-type sound effect.
Posing a rich Texan millionaires and in possession of a million
dollars, these two wreak havoc across Miami. My favourite scene is the
delivery of Spencer's burger; the sequence is surreal enough to have
been lifted from a Leone western and will have you in stitches.
That is what I call having juice in style.
Are you the burgers I ordered?
Save the day (by chance)
If you like this film I'd also recommend 'Double Trouble', possibly
their finest film. 'Go For It' remains a close second and a fine
reminder that if there's no chemistry, no amount of stunts or CGI will
make your film work. The right team, however unlikely the pairing, will
turn any ordinary film into a memorable one.
As promised, today (at long last I might add) I'll finish my awful debt with the cape crusader. Some time ago I finished reviewing the 4 Batman films from the original 1989-1997 Warner Bros. franchise but, I never gave myself the time to fully complete the Christopher Nolan trilogy, which is not only a masterpiece work in terms of comic book characters, but also a masterpiece in the history of film making.
Despite the fact that not many years had gone by since the painfully awful "Batman & Robin" I was very hesitant when I found out "Batman Begins" was going to be released. I even thought it was going to be a bad film that according to silly me, was going to focus mostly in the pre-Batman years of Bruce Wayne and that we'd see little to no Batman action at all. Thank god I was so wrong. "Batman Begins" was such an interesting piece, that one movie couldn't be enough to explain the journey of a solitary man willing to sacrifice his life towards justice. Of course, Nolan was aware of this...
What can a simple loser like myself say about The Dark Knight that hasn't been already said everywhere? Wow. Just wow. And I thought Batman Begins was excellent. This... this
piece of art... its PHENOMENAL!! From the scale, to the acting, the
atmosphere, the music, the action, it's all art. I have not experienced
this level of greatness in the cinema for a long time. This film is the
darkest Batman, as well as one of the darkest, violent and gripping
films, ever made.
Cricket is not this fun, y'know.
I'll start off with the actors. Christian Bale has done a tremendous
job as our beloved Caped Crusader, who has a flawed personality that
hangs on the balance between righteous and crazy. His perception of
justice causes an emotional and personal shift, whether he is a rich
guy who fights crime in a suit or just a regular guy who is sick of all
the injustice in Gotham City and decides to give the psychopaths a dose
of their own medicine. Because of this, and Bale's tremendous acting,
the Bruce Wayne character is justified, and we, the audience,
emphasizes with Bale's flawed hero more than Michael Keaton, Val
Kilmer, George (shudder) Clooney, Kevin Conroy, or God forbid Adam
West, ever will. If there was an excellent Batman, this is the real
deal. The theme of righteousness and insanity is played well with his
character here.
But of course, the real star of the show is the late and great Heath
Ledger, who steals almost every scene he's in as the villainous Joker
(Nicholson, step aside). This Joker is not like the other renditions;
he is the best. Downright evil, corrupt, insane, psychotic, terrifying.
In every sense of those aforementioned words. More scary than funny, he
shows audiences the Joker is undoubtedly Batman's most nefarious foe
and his perfect nemesis, challenging him all the way. With a cynical
smile, he proclaims in a scene where Batman is a freak to the public,
like the Joker himself. This also explains the balance of righteousness
that Bruce Wayne is going through. The Joker is downright evil, and
Ledger makes this performance legendary.
"Do you think I can still have a drink with this new face?"
The improved Rachel Dawes.
The rest of the cast is excellent and star-studded. Aaron Eckhart does
his Harvey Dent/Two-Face character justice, with a strong sense of
righteousness/betrayal/twistedness up his sleeve, as well as Bruce
Wayne's rival in love. His acting is strong here. Maggie Gyllenhaal is
a great replacement for Katie Holmes as Wayne's love interest Rachel
Dawes, as she shows more sensitive and caring side towards Bruce, other
than Holmes' nearly flat performance. Michael Caine as Bruce Wayne's
loyal butler Alfred delivers, as well as Morgan Freeman as the CEO of
Wayne Enterprises. Gary Oldman does an excellent portrayal of Lt. James
Gordon, who aids Batman in his quest for justice. And a special mention
goes to Eric Roberts as a crime lord, who surprisingly does a great
acting job. The rest of the cast can take a bow, they can be proud of
their being in this film.
"This fucked up rich kid will never learn!"
The cinematography is possibly the most sublime scenes ever chosen.
Gotham and Hong Kong are wide, and yet, there is this dark aura of
crime and corruption all around them. It really blends in well with the
film, giving it a distinct and unique look. Quite simply, this is the
best Gotham city in any Batman rendition. Wally Pfister has done an
excellent job.
To accompany the atmosphere is the tremendous music score by movie
music maestros, James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer. With talents like
these, the score is unforgettable. It is tension-building at times, and
throbbing and glorious yet dark/moody during others. It deserves an
Oscar.
The very loyal screenplay is written very, very well by Jonathan Nolan
(director's brother), who has done a masterful job. The characters are
(pardon the pun) rich in character and the story has not a flaw in it.
For a comic book film adaptation, this film is not at all fantasy-like.
It is quite realistic in a way and this is what gives the film more
credibility. Also, the fact that the script is realistic is
unbelievable, as you expect a superhero film when you walk in the
cinema, and walk out realizing you have just seen an epic crime saga.
Yes, CRIME SAGA. It deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence with
"GoodFellas", "Heat", "The Untouchables" and even "The Godfather". I
kid you not, this film has the power. The fact that this is an epic is
further proved by the film's length - 2 hours and 32 minutes. Yes, it's
that long. But it goes by so fast because you end up wishing for more.
Let me do the trick, pay me later.
"Eat your vegetables Joker"
But of course, none of this is possible without the genius that is the
other Nolan, director Christopher. As per Memento, he knows how to
direct a film. The dramatic scenes are engaging and the action
sequences are crisp, thrilling, and will blow you out of your seat.
Nolan's direction is tense, whip-smart, kinetic and smart. All of the
action sequences are realistic, "boombastic", and CGI is used only when
necessary (Steve Spielberg and George Lucas, take note). The new
vehicle and some gadgets look cool and stylish and do not take away the
film's credibility and realism. There are a lot of action sequences to
boot, some of them combining themes from above. You will have to see
them to believe them. The brothers Nolan have done it again.
"Tumblers don't swag anymore, that's why I got a swag bike"
In short, it's a masterpiece. One that will knock you out of your seat.
It is the best Batman film ever, the best superhero film ever and the
best film of 2008. Do
yourselves a favor and see this piece of art. Repeated viewings highly
recommended.
Yes, I know it's been a while & I do know you're wondering "why is this guy reviewing a movie that everyone has made reviews about before?" Well, you know me, I'm a movie lover and also a comic book fan, specially about the ones that deal with the caped crusader, and since I've already dealt with "The Dark Knight Rises" I feel it is my concerned citizen duty to complete the trilogy as I did with previous bat films.
I had fearful reservations about this one. I loved Tim Burton's Batman
- 12 years old when it came out I was the perfect age for it and I also
enjoyed Batman Returns so much, that I thought it'd be the ultimate Batman film for ages to come. The franchise went so wrong under Joel
Schumacher that I wasn't sure I wanted it resurrected. Not least
because Batman was one of the few comics I read and enjoyed as a kid
and was always my favourite superhero (yes, I know he's got no superpowers to be called a superhero) I grew up reading the comics,
watching reruns of the Adam West TV show and then getting Burton's
celluloid vision. I was spoilt for choice as a kid but as an adult now
I was concerned revisiting the franchise, especially given Warner's
record over the last decade of screwing up summer blockbusters with
potential all over the place (dare I bring up the Matrix sequels?)
Bruce Wayne is not your average yuppie.
Bad guys can teach you well sometimes.
However, I am pleased to report I could not have been more wrong about
how great Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins is. This is better than
Burton. Sacrilege, you say?! Well Burton was still cartoony in many
elements, he wasn't churning out the bilge of Schumacher but Burton's
Batman was still over the top. As a kid this was ideal but Nolan's
Batman is real. Everything in this world seems plausible and it is
therefore a world that draws you in. Characters' vulnerability is that
much more present. Every bruise, every scare, every concern, every
emotion seems real and the whole technology behind Batman also seems very plausible. The batmobile looks like a massive tank monster, and Lucius Fox science & tech aid looks and feels very very real (the kevlar batsuit is a great example of it)
Part of this is that Nolan has assembled an exemplary cast. Again, this
concerned me prior to seeing the film. I wasn't sure a cast of big name
legends like Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman and well known names like
Liam Neeson and Katie Holmes wouldn't detract and distract from Batman.
I was always sure Christian Bale could be the great moody Batman he's
been waiting his career to be but the others I wasn't so sure about.
You'll believe a bat can fly...oh, wait! bats do fly!
Batman had the swag even before swag was cool XD.
That said Bale is not just good, he's superb. I never thought I'd
really be able to envision anyone other than Michael Keaton as the
definitive Batman for me but since seeing Batman Begins a couple of
days ago Bale has cemented himself in the position. Perhaps Keaton will
now be able to escape the spectre of Batman he hasn't truly shaken off
for 13 years. A funny fact is that Christian Bale had already played an obsessed millionaire character in 2000's American Psycho. Strangely, the name of his character was Patrick Bateman, ring any bells?
The rest of the cast is also pitch perfect. Cillian Murphy is creepy as
hell, Liam Neeson is authoritative and imposing, Katie Holmes is strong
and sexy (I particularly thought she'd be insipid, but I was wrong) and Michael Caine is an
Alfred you've never seen but in fact far more likely as a butler than
the aristocratic pomp with which he is usually portrayed. Gary Oldman
is also superb in a rare wholly decent character for him as Lieutenant
Jim Gordon who gets far more to so here than Gordon has ever had to do
before. Only Tom Wilkinson is a little off with a slightly comedic
wise-guy American accent that never really convinces.
The emotional bond between Bruce Wayne and Alfred is actually a
wonderful human heart to the film than Nolan and Goyer have written
perfectly.
Fortunately not as boring as her past in Dawson's Creek.
Say Bruce, will ya diddle my skiddle?
Don't let that make you think the action is not front and centre
though. From Wayne's training through the early stages of the film to
his early missions as Batman at about the half way point to a
thrillingly choreographed chase sequence and an edge of your seat
finale this film delivers the cool quotient in bucket loads.
Great villains (especially Murphy), great story, great cast, great
action... put simply, great film. Probably on of the best comic-book movies
ever made (that's excluding the genius Sin City which I consider a
moving comic-book rather than a comic-book movie, that will never be
bettered but Batman is a different beast and the best of its kind).
Overall, you already know this is part 1 of a magnificent trilogy Marvel wish they had, and the liberties Nolan took for the origin story won't bother the extremists bookworms of the comic book world.
Anyways, here's the great movie trailer, and the following review will obviously be "The Dark Knight"
