Following our latest crusade, we continue with a selection of some Spanish "cine de destape" films that are somehow available these days. Whether you understand Spanish or not is completely out of the question since all these films are pretty much extended softcore sex scenes with a few dialog interventions here and there. 

Viciosas y Desnudas (Vicious and Nude (we'll take about the wrong translation below)) is a 1980 Spanish sexploitation film written and directed by Manuel Esteba and starred by starlets Eva Lyberten & Adriana Vega. Unlike our previous entry (La Caliente Niña Julietta) this film does feature an actual plot and it's a remake of the 1977 thriller "Death Game" that featured Seymour Cassel, Sondra Locke and Colleen Camp in lead roles. In 2015, horror director Eli Roth wrote and directed "Knock Knock", the official remake of "Death Game", starring Keanu Reeves, Roth's wife Lorenza Izzo and Ana de Armas. The remake was produced by the female stars of "Death Game", Colleen Camp and Sondra Locke.

In a nutshell, two unnamed hippie girls (as stated by IMBD in the film's cast list) run out of luck once their car breaks down. Luckily, there's a house nearby to ask for a little room to stay  until the rain is over. The house owner, is Juan Aznar (played by Jack Taylor) a famous and successful writer who's home alone after his wife and kids went on a trip. Opening the door to the unknown horny hippies will leave him with a bittersweet taste he will never forget.

Now, going back to the Vicious and Nude English title of the film, let me tell you how wrong it is. In Spanish "vicioso/a" means depraved or addicted and this is because Vicious & vicioso are false cognates commonly mistaken as sharing the same meaning. In English, to be vicious means to be ferocious, dangerous and even malicious or cruel, so the correct English title for the film should have been "Depraved & Nude". Phew! now that my linguistical doubt is relieved, we can continue with the movie review.

So, after our helpful man opens the door and allows the two poor girls to take a hot shower, the main drive of the film is revealed, the two mysterious girls are actually twisted manipulative tramps who use sex to play with men until they get full control over them in order to have them doing as they please.

Obviously, there's more than meets the eye and our anti hero girls behave like that because of reasons.  The film does offer a few flashback scenes that weakly explain the origin story of the girls and as for our successful writer man of the family, he isn't necessarily an innocent bystander. Unfortunately, the limited budget or maybe the inexperienced producers involved in the making of this film, simply cannot tell the story right.

If Hispanic sexploitation films are somehow a genre on their own, I'd say the Mexican sexploitation films, AKA "sexy comedia" are clearly recognizable for their comedy centered mood, while the Spanish "cine de destape" tries to be as sexually driven as it can bordering becoming a porno, and also featuring, or trying to feature to be honest, serious stories about cheating, murder, etc.  

Viciosas al Desnudo is obviously out of print since the days of VHS tapes. International releases were only made in Spanish speaking countries and there is no dubbed version of the film in any language. Plans of digitized future releases on both DVD & Blu Ray are non existent to this date, and I humbly think, there will never be an official release of this movie because it isn't a memorable film. This is one of the many Spanish softcore films made to cash in from a brief period of time where these films were popular enough to attract more viewers than the usual masturbators.

Overall, another forgettable film you could play in the background in a party with friends. The fact that you don't need Spanish to understand what's going on, sums up the quality of the film. The grand finale scene is reminiscent of other rape & revenge films but again, it's not that good. If you're a completist looking for foreign exploitation films, you may want to give this film a try, although the whole Spanish "cine de destape" genre isn't nowhere near as good as films made in Sweden, Germany & Italy.

La Caliente Niña Julietta

Erotic/softcore/sexploitation films neither make no statements towards any particular philosophy or politicial view, nor they reflect a moment in time where countries are changed due to a revolution or constitutional change. However, there are always exceptions to the rule. Such is the case of La Caliente Niña Julietta (The Hot Girl Julietta, actually it should have been translated as The Horny Girl Julietta) a 1981 Spanish erotic film, now thought to be the best "cine de destape" (the name of the sexploitation genre in Spain) film of all time. Directed by the once moralist film maker Ignacio Iquino, and starred by Spanish Erotica starlets Andrea Albani, Eva Lyberten & Vicky Palma, La Caliente Niña Julietta is the result of years fighting against censorship and the tyranny of the dictatorship led by son of a bitch Francisco Franco. 

 

Before Franco died, the Spanish movie industry was heavily censored and controlled by a commission of people following  Franco's wishes. As a matter of fact, it wasn't until 1975, when the dictator's bans where abolished, leading the industry into a late & rushed sexploitation scene that run until mid 80's where Spanish porn took the lead and made film makers move on to something else. Although La Caliente Niña Julieta is one of many sexploitation films made in Spain, this one stands tall compared to others due to certain political statements that are well hidden in the film, but are quite obvious for Spanish viewers.

Plot wise, we're introduced to Julietta (Andrea Albani) who returns to Spain to visit her former lesbian lover Silvia (Eva Lyberten) who's stuck in a boring marriage. Obviously, they get back together quickly and decide to exchange husbands, boyfriends, lovers and finally team up to convince Rita (Vicky Palma) into a menage a atrois. The film was the most successful production of IFI studios and made $98.449.949 pesetas (around US$702.225) which means 578.320 people went to the movie theaters. Besides the gorgeous actresses, the film also offers us some of the most beautiful views you can find in Spain. Filmed in Gerona, Lloret de Mar & Tossa del Marsta the overall summertime feel of the movie adds up to the necessity of the actresses for being nude as much as they can during the hour and a half the flick runs.

The film surely knows not to take itself too seriously as the parade of characters pretty much offers us a set of stereotyped horny men, dumb horny women & a gay character that could actually survive the constant changes society has had since the 80's. Dialogs are clearly not written by Quentin Tarantino, and most of the sex scenes, are actually lesbian sex scenes that seem rather rushed than well taken care of.

Now, trying to understand why this film in particular is considered a masterpiece in Spanish erotica is beyond our understanding. Nevertheless, we will compare this "masterpiece" to other films that are Spanish fan favorites: Los Violadores del Amanecer, Viciosas al Desnudo & Las Pupilas de Madame Olga, all filmed around the same time La Caliente Niña Julietta was produced save for Los Violadores del Amanecer which was filmed in 1978 and seems to be a rape/revenge type of film.

Going back to our current film in review, there is a very weird scene where our ladies are skinny dipping and all of a sudden we're offered a poem written by the Greek poet Safo de Lesbos in Aphrodite's name. The relationship between the scene and the poem remains a mystery to this very day. Another "key scene" that helps understand the elaborated plot is the fact that one of the girls wants an expensive fur coat that the other girl wants to but can't afford to. This leads to our stallions buying & stealing from one another so that they can get a good fuck in exchange, something quite pointless, cause the girls are always horny and willing to fuck at all times. No need for rewards or favors.

Like many films of its time, La Caliente Niña Julietta was released only on VHS Tape format, and has been out of print since the early 80's. The film was a fan favorite among video rental stores in Spain & Latin America. As far as we know, the film was neither dubbed nor subtitled into other languages, and honestly, there's no need for that, since this film is pretty much a visual collection of softcore sex scenes with irrelevant dialog. However, if you're interested in watching it, the film is public domain so you can watch it through several streaming services. 

Exploitation wise, the film is the standard in softcore but offers a scene that depending on how you see life, could be memorable. The lesbian lovers have a passion for liquor chocolate. What we don't know is what they do with them! Before 69 they stick the chocolate inside their wet pussies so that the other can eat it while seeing the world upside down.

Overall, La Caliente Niña Julietta is a pretty straight forward sexploitation film. Dialog and plot are clearly not what the audience would expect in these kind of films, so if you're curious about exploitation films from unusual countries (y'know, not from Sweden, Italy, Germany or the US) And if you're planning to learn some Spanish, this may be the film that won't teach you anything at all!
