About to go 29

and so begins the massacre...

Today, while most of my students were e-mailing me their latest projects I had some time to think about this good old blog, which I'm sure by now almost nobody in the world reads it, but I still care about it cause it's sort of my personal diary exposed to everyone bored enough to care as I do.

So what's it gonna be today? well I feel like posting about the recent movie box set I bought, which I'm very proud of buying it cause it contains important pieces of underground, or B-rated movies that inspired some greater flicks.

This 32 movie set called "32 Drive-In Cult Classics" comes packed with very different movies, some about thriller, some about drama, some about horror and some about nothing (yeah nothing!) perhaps the binding factor here is that most of the movies were filmed under very low budgets and most of the female characters had either to appear nude or perform (simulated of course) in scenes where sex was the main drive.

The feeling that these movies deliver is that of vintage imagery of girls dressed "a la hippie" pots, fast cars, nature settings, and a long gone taste for movie directing based on keeping the movie goers interested, from beginning to end, by giving us directing based on not having high budgets, well-known actors or even good writers, but I assure you if you call yourself a film fan you'll completely love this set.

Featuring such stars as:
  • Zalman King (Red Shoe Diaries)
  • John Savage (The Deer Hunter)
  • Karen Black (Five Easy Pieces)
  • Jayne Mansfield (Promises, Promises)
  • Donald Pleasance (Halloween)
  • Peter Cushing (Star Wars)
  • Robert Carradine (Revenge of the Nerds)
  • Jay North (TV's Dennis the Menace)
  • Robert Reed (The Brady Bunch) ....., and many more!
Including:
  1. The Babysitter
  2. Best Friends
  3. Blood Mania
  4. Bloodlust
  5. Blue Money
  6. Carnival of Crime
  7. Cindy and Donna
  8. Click: The Calendar Girl Killer
  9. The Creeping Terror
  10. The Devil's Hand
  11. Double Exposure
  12. The Hearse
  13. Hot Target
  14. Land of the Minotaur
  15. Lurkers
  16. Madmen of Mandoras
  17. Malibu Beach
  18. Malibu High
  19. Night Club
  20. The Pick Up
  21. The Pink Angels
  22. The Pom Pom Girls
  23. Separate Ways
  24. Single Room Furnished
  25. Sister in Law
  26. The Stepmother
  27. The Teacher
  28. Terrified
  29. They Saved Hitler's Brain
  30. Trip With Teacher
  31. Van Nuys Blvd.
  32. Weekend with the Babysitter
These movies, with the exception being, "The Stepmother"(for it's Oscar nomination for best music) were never awarded or played in major movie theaters, nor is there any evidence of drive-in broadcasts as well.

The image transfer to DVD is pretty good, the sound mix is quite good as well. The nostalgia these films present is a tasty temptation, every little of these movies detail screams a loud vintage sense.

So far I have watched 4 movies "The Teacher" "Best Friends" "Trip with the Teacher" and "Malibu High" so my forthcoming reviews will deal with those ones first,. Nevertheless,  I'll keep updating this blog with the remaining movies so that all of you imaginary readers can get a glimpse of each flick...
