Today we'll continue with Asian classics, only this time we won't be talking about J-Horror and any of its many wannabes. Do you remember the peak of the martial arts movie boom? I do, it was the saucy 70's! the reputation that martial arts films had for being violent, gory and a display of human degradation? Well, let me tell you guys that most
films
in the genre didn't live up to the hype at all. Gekitotsu! Satsujin Ken(translated as Clash! killer fist) officially known worldwide as The Street Fighter, sets the standard for onscreen insanity into a whole new level. In fact, there was this scene where our hero got rid of a rapist in a very violent way, giving the film the X rating for being ultra violent,
and despite having been released in 1974, it has yet to be equalled for his neverending violence.
Nowadays, this movie has become a part of the public domain lists of flicks, so you have the legal chance of either watching it online or downloading it for free. However, the film has been re-released in DVD and you may find it in cheap martial arts packs or released as a single movie in second hand stores and even some online stores. Does the SOPA have a say on public domain movies? fortunately it doesn't.

Sonny Chiba has the lead as Terry Tsurugi, a real bastard who is
absolutely the last guy you would ever want to face in combat.Terry Tsurugi would make Bruce
Lee & Chuck Norris characters like newborn children, because
Tsurugi is not done with you being dead, he wants to make sure your body is ripped into little pieces to be completely satisfied. His fighting style may lack choreography tricks but still it looks and feels effective. If you want to see martial arts in the line of Ang Lee's movies, definitely this film isn't for you. If
you
want to see a guy who behaves like a Mortal Kombat character, then this is the
movie
for you!
Let's be brief: Terry tsurugi is a badass bountyhunter who will take on any job
if his price is met. The movie can be described thinking of two plot lines, Plotline #1 has Terry rescuing convicted karate
murderer Junjo from his date with the hangman. When Terry relocates Junjo
to
Hong Kong (no, not China) so the Japanese police won't find him, Junjo's brother and
sister
show up and tell Terry that they can't afford to pay him the rest of the
money they owe for their brother's escape. Tragedy results that will make
Junjo Terry's bitterest enemy and will eventually see them in a final
showdown where only one will survive. Plotline #2 sees Terry volunteering
to
bodyguard the heiress to an oil fortune who is being pressured by the
Yakuza. Her uncle happens to be a Karate master who is the only man alive
that Tsurugi has some respect for, and by working for him, Terry makes an attempt at
redeeming himself as a decent human being. Terry tries to stay
one step ahead of the Yakuza, and his efforts culminate in a "tender"
bloodbath where he takes on about thirty goons who will be in pain in hell for sure.
"Suck my pussy or Die"
Hurricane Kick!
Bloodbath!
"I don't think you need this heart anymore you cumface"
I can't see, I can't see more porn!
Overall, the two plotlines merge quite well and obviously the ass-whuppin' set-pieces are loads
of violent entertainment for the connoisseurs. Chiba's performance is unlike any other character
in
the history of the genre. Mean, violent and downright reprehensible, The Street Fighter is a unique milestone in the martial arts movie genre.Be sure to check the sequel Return of the Street Fighter. And remember "If you've got to fight, fight dirty"
